The summer course in theological German at the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz is internationally famous, and unique in kind.

It has been a wonderful experience, and very much what I was hoping for!

The „German (and) Theology“-Summer course improved my ability to read theological German substantially. The lectures concerning German church history and theology were especially helpful in understanding current German scholarship. I highly recommend the summer school!

Since returning to the US I have been able to read many important articles. The summer school was a great experience for me and I have recommended it to other students. I am now interested in returning to Mainz for a short-term research trip!

Brandon Massey, Chicago

The German language and theology summer school in Mainz was just what I needed to make the next (big) step in gaining proficiency in German for my research in biblical studies. I benefitted from the language instruction and translation practice every morning as well as from the variety of theology lectures each afternoon. The size of the class was ideal for language learning--not too big or too small--allowing every student to participate fully. Additionally, the weekend excursions were well-organised and a fun, educational way to spend the weekends. I retook the same German proficiency exam after completing the summer school and scored a full level higher!

I had a fantastic three weeks and learned a lot!

Thank you for all your work to make this such a valuable and enjoyable experience for us all!

I am finding that the research activity in Mainz is strengthening the bibliography for my thesis ... I will keep working to engage the German secondary literature closely. I would like to note that in addition to contributing to the bibliography, the summer school has sharpened my perspective of the various approaches in German theology. I have been inspired by several aspects ... I am very glad to have studied with the faculty in Mainz!

This time last year I was enjoying the environs of Mainz & JGU. Thank you again for that opportunity… it has been a major highlight of my life, no less these Phd-thesis years.
